There was a war. Some sort of war. Gain Baseton (Will/Siz's father) turned his three youngest children to stone during the early stages of the conflict to 'keep them safe.' It worked, although meanwhile some 3000 years--give or take--passed before Siz, Will, and Ryuu were found and disenchanted. The war had ended by then and Bad Stuff had happened to the world.

That's all I (pdrydia) know. Will might know more. If he doesn't, then nothing is set as canon, and all is free for the manipulations.

Below are some things which HAVE been shown to be canon!

TECHNOLOGY/ITEMS

  • music spheres (topside, prewar)
  • interdimensional relations (topside, prewar)
  • amulet, called the Star of the White North (topside, prewar)

LOCATIONS

  • Scalewood Forest (topside, prewar)
  • Prometheus (topside, prewar)
  • Dologen (topside, prewar)
  • Myrdel dome (below ground, postwar): limited numbers of police force, not entirely organized or necessarily thorough in investigations; home to a very few, very small gangs which fancy themselves "demon hunters"
    • Arvon's bar

TIME

Matron's Diary, Date 13/67/17; Matron's Diary: Date 13/21/21; Draconian politics in the year 6621; 1 Phaedrio 2613; ("guess: month/day/year, as there are "14 months on Draco" and the Matron's second diary entry is 4 years after the first; I'm not entirely sure how many days are in each month" -Dia).

About the month of Phaedrio: it is the 7th month of 14 on Draco. The name derives from phaetre (a gem) and -drio (an ancient word meaning month of). Phaetre is a precious gem similar in coloring to peacock pyrite; in form, it is a crystal, such as an amethyst, and only the highest quality specimens are even semi-transparent.

A number of the races on Terra use this naming system with the months. The months once, a good long time ago, were named on a number of gods who may or may not have existed--however, at the time of the renaming, they were considered "false" and "pagan." Thus, there was a push to eliminate the mention them from such a prominent place; the less fanatic countered this by managing to get the months named after the birthstones for each month, rather than other gods.

CHARS, RACES, CRITTERS, GODS

canon Draco characters:

  • Basetons
    • Gain Baseton (deceased)
    • Valerie Baseton (deceased): "queen of the white dragons"
    • Alex Baseton (deceased)
  • Sharik Jewell (deceased): jeweler, father of Reival Jewel
  • Avron: owner of "Avron's" (bar)
  • Sharon
  • "Laetia fell to Terra after her battle with Astaroth"
    • Astaroth (status unknown)
    • Laetia (status unknown)
    • Terra (status unknown)

canon Gaera originating from Draco:

  • Basetons
    • Sizreina Baseton
    • Will Baseton
    • Ryuu Baseton
  • Reival Valerie Jewell
  • Kittie

races:

  • humans: postwar surface is largely uninhabitable for humankind (why?); make their homes underground in domes; trade amongst domes and with topsiders who make journeys below ground for this purpose
  • ryuujin: postwar surface is habitable for ryuujin
  • elves: postwar surface is habitable for elvenkind
    • avian elves
  • red dragon: ??
race relations: Myrdel dome
-- "All humans are troublesome, but non-humans are worse."
-- ryuujin more often called (erroneously) 'dragons,' or 'demons'; not taken kindly to
-- elvenkind + humans buddies throughout the larger part of Draco history

critters:

  • chocobos
  • the snarlan: blood-spawned creature lurked in the darkness within Scalewood Forest, feared even by the elves; its claws could rend a full-grown red dragon in half without any trouble. Only once had it been seen outside of the forest, and it left a trail of destruction in its wake. The Snarlan was once a creature of light, but the Hatred Rune's power reached it and corrupted it into the horrific blood-beast that terrorized the elves

pantheon:

  • Ladon: god of dragons, senile and near death

(15:25:15) Dia McDia O'Diason: POUNCE

(15:26:45) Cheesesteak: Yo.

(15:27:03) Dia McDia O'Diason: greetings (15:27:16) Dia McDia O'Diason: are you up to Draco chattings today?

(15:28:20) Cheesesteak: Whatever residual memory I have left is yours to use...although believe me, it's not too much. =/

(15:28:39) Dia McDia O'Diason: ::nods:: (15:28:49) Dia McDia O'Diason: well, the first thing I'd like to ask is--brb, phone (15:29:41) Dia McDia O'Diason: wrong number. I wish wrong numbers spoke more clearly, it'd be easier to tell they were wrong numbers more quickly (15:29:43) Dia McDia O'Diason: ANYWAY (15:30:03) Dia McDia O'Diason: the average lifespan of the ryuujin who is NOT encased in stone?

(15:30:25) Cheesesteak: There's no officially stated lifespan as due to the mingled bloodline, aging is not a serious factor.

(15:30:44) Dia McDia O'Diason: mingled bloodline?

(15:31:15) Cheesesteak: Ryuujin are a mutant race caused by an extremely ancient crossbreeding of high elves and dragons who took elven forms to blend in better. (15:31:22) Cheesesteak: Hence why they default with pointed ears.

(15:31:44) Dia McDia O'Diason: righto

(15:31:58) Cheesesteak: And also why they adopted a mainstream humanoid society as opposed to the solitary dragons of most areas.

(15:32:57) Dia McDia O'Diason: about Draco: what was the whole war thing that Siz and Will and Ryuu got stoned (ahahaha) for?

(15:33:19) Cheesesteak: That was a civil war between two factions. (15:33:31) Cheesesteak: It's based heavily on the original Breath of Fire game, with the Dark Dragons and the "good ones". (15:34:26) Cheesesteak: I tried to retcon it to make it a little less lame, though, and instead of the Light Dragons and Dark Dragons, it was a more politically motivated war, and the Black Ryuujin were less outright "evil".

(15:35:16) Dia McDia O'Diason: ::nods::

(15:35:22) Cheesesteak: Although the war ended up devastating both sides, razed the capital, and Ryuu ended up having to try and rebuild the society on his own. (15:35:41) Cheesesteak: I will also point out that once a ryuujin reaches "elder" age, they usually retire from society as a whole and leave the cities.

(15:35:46) Dia McDia O'Diason: the Basetons were leaders of a sort?

(15:35:57) Cheesesteak: The parents were the royal family at the time. (15:36:15) Cheesesteak: Serious royalists, though, which was part of the reason FOR the war. (15:36:41) Cheesesteak: Which kinda explains Will's lack of understanding in democracy and his devotion to the Doman crown.

(15:36:49) Dia McDia O'Diason: ::nods::

(15:38:02) Cheesesteak: I should note, Draco is not the official name of the planet, it's sorta like how different languages say "Earth" differently.

(15:38:11) Dia McDia O'Diason: I do remember that!

(15:38:12) Cheesesteak: If you want a more "canon" name for the planet, I generally just use Terra

(15:38:12) Dia McDia O'Diason: Terra

(15:38:15) Cheesesteak: Right!

(15:38:27) Dia McDia O'Diason: what about the aftereffects of the war? I remember something about humans living underground in domes

(15:38:40) Cheesesteak: That was a different war, actually. (15:38:55) Cheesesteak: It came before the big Astaroth conflict, but after the White/Black Ryuujin war.

(15:40:13) Dia McDia O'Diason: Astaroth conflict? and, also: different war?

(15:40:16) Cheesesteak: One of the continents decided to pull a case of extreme expansionism and started jutting out into other countries, and in response, one of the more technologically advanced cities developed a high-powered retrovirus engineered at taking out a city in one strike, but it ended up spreading too fast for the virus to die out on its own and ended up cutting a swath through most of the planet, making it uninhabitable for humans for a few years. (15:40:59) Cheesesteak: And once they moved underground, people were afraid to go back to the surface not because it necessarily WAS unsafe, but because they were afraid the virus might still BE there.

(15:41:01) Dia McDia O'Diason: ::nods:: RIGHT. That sounds familiar now.

(15:41:32) Cheesesteak: As for Astaroth, he was a demon king who didn't care for Ryuu much, and enjoyed tormenting the rebuilding Ryuujin society, as well as most of the rest of thep lanet as well. (15:41:40) Cheesesteak: But he specifically didn't like Ryuu. (15:42:08) Cheesesteak: He made one or two appearances in the Gaera canon, but was given a huge NO sign by the Gaeran pantheon when they found out he was trying to break in.

(15:42:12) Dia McDia O'Diason: Astaroth: part of the pantheon?

(15:42:20) Cheesesteak: He's just a demon lord.

(15:42:23) Dia McDia O'Diason: kay

(15:42:32) Cheesesteak: Extremely powerful and sadistic, but not actually a god. (15:42:54) Cheesesteak: None of the Terran gods were powerful (or alive) enough to stop him, so he ran wild about...I want to say three times. (15:45:25) Cheesesteak: He's not DEAD, but he's basically got no footholds in Terra or Gaera to speak of, so he's actually stuck between the planes at the moment.

(15:45:41) Dia McDia O'Diason: plottiriffic (15:45:43) Dia McDia O'Diason: "Laetia fell to Terra after her battle with Astaroth" (15:45:52) Dia McDia O'Diason: Terra being the planet? What's Laetia? (15:46:01) Dia McDia O'Diason: (that line pulled from your fic, incidentally)

(15:46:18) Cheesesteak: Hm. I don't remember what Laetia is. Link me? (15:46:26) Cheesesteak: It might jog my brain.

(15:46:31) Dia McDia O'Diason: http://forums.rpgww.org/viewtopic.php?t=1806&highlight=ryuujin (15:46:34) Dia McDia O'Diason: ctrl F it (15:46:42) Dia McDia O'Diason: it's a little over halfway down

(15:47:16) Cheesesteak: I think Laetia was the goddess mentioned later in the sentence. (15:47:27) Cheesesteak: Ancient legends about gods and devils fighting in the sky and whatnot.

(15:47:45) Dia McDia O'Diason: ::nods:: Prometheus a continent/ (15:47:48) Dia McDia O'Diason: ?

(15:47:52) Cheesesteak: Yep.

(15:47:58) Dia McDia O'Diason: how many continents?

(15:48:00) Cheesesteak: Prometheus, Heimdall, and...I forget the other two. (15:48:04) Cheesesteak: There were four main land masses.

(15:48:04) Dia McDia O'Diason: cool (15:48:20) Dia McDia O'Diason: ::taps desk:: You remember a lot. o.o

(15:48:29) Cheesesteak: Photographic memory logs useless information. (15:48:34) Cheesesteak: It's just a pain in the ass to pull it all out. (15:49:10) Cheesesteak: Now, I'm pretty damn sure it was Heimdall that the Incident occurred on.

(15:49:23) Dia McDia O'Diason: ::nods:: (15:49:25) Dia McDia O'Diason: OKAY

(15:49:26) Cheesesteak: Which was where Astaroth Time Crashed an entire city, killing every single inhabitant but leaving it completely intact.

(15:50:01) Dia McDia O'Diason: There's humans, elves, ryuujin, and dragons. Also, demons and gods. (15:50:07) Dia McDia O'Diason: Any other races? (15:50:10) Dia McDia O'Diason: /beings

(15:50:23) Cheesesteak: It's pretty much the standard fantasy cross-section for the most part. (15:50:37) Cheesesteak: Dwarves have not shown their face in the surface world whatsoever since the virus incident, though. (15:50:57) Cheesesteak: They're ALIVE, just...they don't want anything to do with all of the wars.

(15:51:58) Dia McDia O'Diason: there's avian elfs, as I recall. It was a plot point in one of my Siz fics. I imagine, also, there's plain ol' wingless elves. Is that it for elvin variations?

(15:52:20) Cheesesteak: I'm sure there are drow hanging around somewhere, just not particularly common. (15:52:44) Cheesesteak: And sirens are also a rather populous race, although they, like the dwarves, aren't exactly well-suited for surface life.

(15:53:00) Dia McDia O'Diason: stick to the water?

(15:53:06) Cheesesteak: Mostly.

(15:53:14) Dia McDia O'Diason: RIGHT

(15:53:21) Cheesesteak: Will and Ryuu actually fought over who got to date one of the siren nobles at one point, which was amusing.

(15:53:50) Dia McDia O'Diason: you mentioned a "red dragon" in one of your fics. The dragon races are identified by color? Or was that just young Will noting that the dragon was red?

(15:54:12) Cheesesteak: Dragons are mainly just classified by their species type. (15:54:25) Cheesesteak: Will being a Metal was a genetic fluke, as you probably remember. (15:55:23) Cheesesteak: So scale color is more like hair color to them.

(15:55:30) Dia McDia O'Diason: kay

(15:56:02) Cheesesteak: For ryuujin specifically it's almost a non-issue, and some are good enough shapeshifters (not many) that they can alter their colors THEMSELVES. (15:56:36) Cheesesteak: I'd say Siz very possibly could with her magical knowledge, for example.

(15:56:47) Dia McDia O'Diason: ::nods (15:56:50) Dia McDia O'Diason: when the surface became uninhabitable for humans, did it become so for any other race?

(15:56:58) Cheesesteak: Not specifically. (15:57:12) Cheesesteak: Although without humans, the practice and usage of magic experienced a sharp dropoff.

(15:57:22) Dia McDia O'Diason: I imagine!

(15:57:28) Cheesesteak: Which was not healthy for some of the pure magical races.

(15:57:44) Dia McDia O'Diason: TIME. There are 14 months a year. How many days a month?

(15:57:55) Cheesesteak: Hmm... (15:58:08) Cheesesteak: Feel free to utilize discretion there, I don't think either of us ever established that.

(15:58:13) Dia McDia O'Diason: sure thing

(15:58:22) Cheesesteak: 7-day week, definitely, but I don't know about months.

(15:58:43) Dia McDia O'Diason: pooff! (15:58:47) Dia McDia O'Diason: I think that about does it! (15:59:12) Dia McDia O'Diason: I'mma save this to the talk page, write something up later, and then run it by you, if that sounds alright

(15:59:19) Cheesesteak: If you want any more info on ryuujin specifically, especially if you still use Siz, feel free to let me know.

(15:59:25) Dia McDia O'Diason: sure thing!

(15:59:29) Cheesesteak: If I don't know it by memory, we can alwyas brainstorm it. ^^; (15:59:56) Cheesesteak: I mean, I didn't write all of this myself, this came from an extremely, extremely long series of RPs that lasted me through most of middle school. (16:00:14) Cheesesteak: So not allowing outside collaboration would kinda kill the spirit of it, y'know?

(16:00:26) Dia McDia O'Diason: ::nods:: (16:00:38) Dia McDia O'Diason: works for me

(16:00:45) Cheesesteak: Awesome. Glad to be of help.

(16:00:45) Dia McDia O'Diason: thanks, btw, Phil (16:01:02) Dia McDia O'Diason: it's fun stuff. :3 Glad to hear it

(16:01:13) Cheesesteak: 'twas nothing. Kept me from getting frustrated at Sonic Wii.

(16:02:41) Dia McDia O'Diason: ::laughs
