race | ryuujin; specifically a Silver Dragon of the platinum classification
physical description | Roughly 6'6", although it can vary from time to time; somewhat thin but athletic build. Shoulder-length flame-red hair with a silver streak running from his bangs all the way down (can be seen either tied up with a bandana or in ponytail form), deep emerald green eyes. Pointed, elven-like ears and a generally handsome face. Usually hidden draconic features include pure silver feathered wings and a smooth tail. His right hand is marked with a blue tattoo shaped like a portal known as the Cosmos Rune, while his left hand contains a red tattoo known as the Chaos Rune. It is currently unknown exactly what these runes are used for. While scanning the astral plane and also in times of extreme stress and anger, Will's third eye, located in the center of his forehead, will open. When closed, the eye is invisible.
alternate forms | Hybrid Mode: Similar to Will's humanoid form, but with silver scaled, clawed arms and legs curved wrist blades, two long silver horns, fangs. Wings and tail are unable to be hidden in this form.
Quicksilver Mode: An "advanced" version of Hybrid Form, a purely silver, somewhat draconic, yet still generally humanoid form. Capable of human speech and unusual liquid metal techniques. Places considerable strain on Will with extended use. Able to repair wounded body parts by "re-assimilating" the metal into his body, but this process takes time and leaves Will incredibly weakened. Full Dragon Form, "Shining Noble": A black and silver smooth-scaled dragon with large, silver, feathered wings and two spiked horns. It generally stands on its back legs and can deliver slashing attacks with its clawed arms. Atop each wing, instead of a talon, is a red crystal utilized in the gathering of energy for high-output lightning attacks. Its underbelly and wings are covered in glowing yellow leylines, most specifically when the form is under great stress or while storing large amounts of electric energy.
typical clothing | Usually seen wearing a dark green motorcycle-style jacket with a red sun motif on the back and left breast. Beneath the jacket, wears dark blue or red shirts of varying types, and is usually seen wearing deep blue or crimson red pants to match with his shirt. Always seen with his mother's silver pendant around his neck, and a golden bracelet with a large emerald inset on his right arm. Often found either wearing dark brown working boots or white and gray shoes brought over from his homeworld.
personality | Will's personality and mood depend almost entirely on his surroundings. While around his close friends, Will is often upbeat, sarcastic, friendly, and a bit of a jokester, albeit he can be harshly opinionated, sometimes to the point of irrationality. Even though this is his natural temperament, however, he can be set off by several factors, such as pranks, personal insults, and stress, and in this situation, becomes easily depressed, introverted, snide, quick to anger, and unrestrained. Will also has a "dark side" that has only been witnessed by several people, including his brother, in which he can become possessed with a murderous rage that is only pacified by knocking him unconscious. This side has not been seen since the end of the Malachian War, however, and it is believed that it has passed entirely. Will has zero tolerance for the misuse of power in any way, shape, or form, especially when pertaining to the military and expansionism. When confronted with situations such as these, he will not hesitate to make his opinions heard. Will also has an intense dislike of "advanced" military technology, and staunchly opposes the development of weapons that eschew the use of magic for more technological means of delivery.
fighting style | Sword style: Modified iaijutsu techniques
Hand to hand combat: Art of the Water Dragon (self-modified martial arts form)
religious beliefs | Will is very steadfast in his belief in the gods, partially due to the fact that he has been saved from death by the kindness of the gods twice. However, his actions periodically throw him into conflict with the gods, and for the most part he does not worship any one god openly, especially after the fall of his patron god. Will generally dislikes demons and their kin, but has been known to work with them on occasion.
drunk type | Unknown; virtually never partakes in alcohol and never uses enough to get drunk, due to an allergic reaction to alcohol poisoning. Rumored to be somewhat overly friendly while drunk.
titles | Will is the Crown Prince of Dologen on his home planet of Terra, despite having renouned his claim to the throne out of respect for his brothers. His other titles and nicknames include, but are not limited to: Dragonboy, Flamehead, Sparks, The Crimson Scourge, The Unflyable One, Mr. Fix-it-but-can't-fly-it, and much to his protest, Willy and Bill.
other | Will is in fact very intelligent, despite his periodic lapses in judgment and his ability to get carried away. Due to his long-standing experience with space magic and dimensional theory, he has a solid knowledge of portals and how to manipulate them. He is also quite skilled with machinery, most specifically computers and vehicles. However, he has absolutely no skill in piloting or driving any vehicles whatsoever, and it has become somewhat of a running joke on his homeworld that Will can fix most anything, but if he is put behind the wheel, it'll be broken again (usually worse than it was before) within ten minutes. He is also mildly acrophobic due to surviving more than one airship crash on sheer luck alone, and hates having his mind probed, due in no small part to mental torture recieved at the hands of Malachias and later, the Council of Knowledge. He also has a curse of sorts, originally placed on him by Malachias but altered several times since, that causes him to invert his gender when a specific trigger is activated. As of current, Will has not publically disclosed the trigger, and has no plans to do so. |
William Jonas Baseton, known simply as Will to friends and family, is a ryuujin offworlder from Terra, who appeared rather randomly in Doma City without much fanfare, but rose in the ranks quickly, ascending to a position of power amongst the Doman royals, due to his close connections with the Queen and General Hakaril Silvar. He is perhaps best known on Gaera for his position as the High Commander of the Hyral Front during the Malachian War, as well as his participation in the sealing of the Artifacts of Nikumu and his long-running "rivalry" with Barian leader Vaniyakna. His current whereabouts are unknown.
Background
When most people think of offworlders, the first thing that comes to mind is usually not a sarcastic, wisecracking dragon with three eyes and a penchant for orange soda. However, once they meet Will, it's usually hard to associate the word with anyone else. Will Baseton hails from Terra, a planet located somewhere in the same galaxy as Gaera, albeit a century or two more advanced technologically. Adventurer, soldier, engineer, professor, martial artist, businessman, demon-slayer, researcher, world-saver...Will's tried them all (and more) over the course of his long life, and has generally made a mess of things in almost all of them.
The third of four children of the Baseton Royal Family of Dologen, Will is also much older than he looks. Several thousand years older, to be exact, although he usually neglects to mention that most of those years were spent sealed in stone as a protectionary measure. His official age is approximately 3,124 years, although exactly how long he has been walking around is subject to debate due to the amnesia-inducing injuries he suffered as a child.
Arriving in Doma City generally without fanfare or much notice, Will's presence quickly grew from unknown to close friend of the Domanadas and all the way up to the adopted brother of the Queen. He can generally be found either in the Jade Dragon Inn (between destructions) or the Market District, as well as his home in the city or his room in the Castle. Currently, however, Will's whereabouts are unknown, as he apparently did not return to Doma after leaving for his annual vacation to Argovia with Aya, Taiar, and several others.
He has not been seen in public since, prompting several rumors concerning his location. Some believe he left by choice, others wonder if he's even on Gaera at all.
Early Life on Terra
Will is, as previously mentioned, the third of four children, born to Gain and Valeria Baseton, the King and Queen of Dologen on the Promet continent of Terra. His two older siblings are Alexander and Sizreina, and the youngest is Ryuu. From the date of his birth, Will became fascinated with the pendant his mother carried with her at all times, which sowed the seeds for his love of treasure later in life. As with all of the children born to his family, Will matured quickly, his wings developing very early on at the age of four. His latent electrical powers also manifested at this point, although he lacked the knowledge or discipline to control them.
As a child, Will idolized his older brother Alex. Alex was a born swordsman, a talent which the elder child repeatedly promised his little brother that he would pass on. Will was also quick to go along with many of his sister's schemes and pranks, ranging from stealing every bathroom towel in the castle to random acts of pyromania (usually spurred on by Siz). However, his mother ordered a strict study regiment, especially in the fields of Runic Magic and military strategy. As Alex was being groomed as the heir to the throne, Will's upbringing was slightly more laid-back than his brother's, as evident by the lessened punishments he recieved for his pranks as opposed to those that his brother would recieve for the same action.
However, at the age of seven, things turned sour for Will, the Baseton clan, and Dologen in its entirety. Dologen's chief rival nation, Iskan, home of the Black Dragon Clan, invaded without warning. The Black Dragons swarmed into Dologen territory, and war broke out within days. Alex, 15 at the time of the war's outbreak, accompanied the Royal Guard during one of their clashes with the Black Dragons. Unfortunately, however, an accident resulted in Alex falling in battle. Upon hearing the news of the loss of their eldest son and the royal heir, Gain and Valeria gathered Siz, Will, and Ryuu together in the Oracle's Temple, and to protect their bloodline, Gain cast a spell upon the three that would protect them from harm until the war's end. This spell, however, protected them by making them into living statues, unable to be harmed, or do harm, for an unknown amount of time...
Unsealing and a False Past
Many, many years later, once the war had concluded, the temple the three Baseton children had been sealed within had fallen deeply into disrepair, as the once-great Dologen City had abandoned once the Black Dragon Clan routed the castle's last line of defense. When the sealing spell on Will finally wore off, he was surprised to find both of his siblings already missing, with no sign of their death or recovery. Frightened and alone, the young dragon attempted to climb out of the wreckage of the temple, but as he trudged through the doorway, the last bits of magic holding the structure together faded, causing much of the ruin to collapse in on itself. Panicked by the sudden implosion, Will was struck in the head with a large piece of stone. Due in no small part to his draconic constitution, the wounded boy managed to drag himself into the plains surrounding the ruined city before finally losing consciousness from loss of blood.

Spells and Techs
- [Innate]Dragon Form (12 TP) - Will summons the power of his ancestors into his body, causing him to transform into a silver dragon standing about 14 feet tall. This technique requires him to spend a turn in transformation, encased in a sphere of lightning. While in this form, Will’s current equipment vanishes until he returns to normal. While transformed he gains +2 to his strength and +2 to his agility, but suffers a penalty of -1 to his dexterity and -1 to his charisma. Whatever armor he has equipped at the time is disregarded, and he gains a natural AC of 30. This form looks quite menacing, and has been known to cause confusion within allies who have never fought alongside him before. He also can only communicate through telepathy in this form.
- [Innate]Platinum Hybrid (8 TP) - Will summons the power of his ancestors into his body in a limited quantity, transforming himself into a liquid silver version of the Hybrid Dragon Form, gaining him horns and claws. This ability requires him to spend one turn transforming, in which he is encased in a sphere of lightning. While in this form, he gains +1 to his stamina and +1 to his agility, but suffers a -2 penalty to his charisma. He also gains a bonus of 9 AC due to being made of pure metal. This form does not cause ally confusion, and he can still function as a normal humanoid within it. His equipment remains on him unless he decides to transform further at half the cost of the Full Dragon Form. With training, the liquid metal withing him could be used for utility purposes.
- [Innate]Royal Thunder (8 TP) - A technique usable only in dragon form, Will draws electricity from the air around him through the metal feathers on his wings and exhales a burst of lightning in a 120 degree cone that does 20+level*8+1d20 electric damage to anything within its range (15 feet/5 hexes).
- [Innate]Lightning Resistance - Will has a natural resistance to lightning. It starts out at 25% resistance, increasing 25% per 5 levels (50% at 5, 75% at 10, and so on). Any percent over 100 is absorbtion instead.
- [Innate]Flight - Having 4 wings, Will can fly. He can fly at the speed of most birds without effort, or double that with a Stamina Check.
- [Innate] Malachian Curse - Will is affected with a curse. The triggers of this curse are currently sealed, although with RPer consent can be explained to the GM.
- [Item granted] Light of Law (44 MP) - The light of law shines upon Will's foes, dealing 16 + (Ryuujin Magic) * 4 + 2d6 damage to all foes. This spell is especially effective against chaotic beasts, such as demons, Barbazu...and Pit Lords.
- [Rune Magic = 4] Roulette (3 TP) - A random effect, determined by the luckout table. It can be good, bad, or neutral.
- [Teleportation=3]Teleportation (32 MP, 6 TP) - It is only effective for locations Will can clearly visualize within 5 miles, and the visualization process requires 15 minutes of absolute concentration, (AKA, noncombat, travel uses only.) Teleportaion fails if Will cannot make a check vs. difficulty 20 within 3 miles, and difficulty 30 outside of that, all within 5 miles. Teleporting further than that requires a check vs. difficulty 40.
- [Telepathy=1] Telepathy - Will can communicate by sending and recieving messages through his mind. However, he does not have the ability to read the thoughts of others.
- [Swords=4, Teleportation=1]Atomic Slicer (6 TP, 11 MP) - After watching Odin perform the deadly "Zantetsuken" technique, Will devised his own variation on it, the Atomic Slicer. While it does not cause instant death, this quick series of sword slashes causes immense pain if aimed and executed perfectly. Will attacks with four slashes, each at a –4 AT penalty. Afterwards, he is open to attacks, suffering a –5 PA penalty until his next turn.
- [Swords=6, Teleportation=3, WDM=5] Atomic Baptism (8 TP, 18 MP) - Will performs this move much like an Atomic Slicer, only there are 2 slash attacks instead of 4. At the end, A beam of lightning falls from the sky onto the foe, which deals 18+(ryuujin magic ranks)*6+3d6 damage. Will is open to attacks after this, suffering a -7 PA penalty.
- [Summoning=1]Summon: Suzakun (12 MP) - Will summons his familiar, a baby phoenix named Suzakun who can aid him in battle. Each turn (for a default of one turn, +1 per every 2 Summoning skill levels), Suzakun's flame diminishes slightly. When his flame is extinguished, Suzakun returns to his master's shoulder and exits the battle. Suzakun's attacks do 7+2d6 flame damage, and on the last turn, heals one party member of Will's choice by 6+rank*2+1d6 HP.
- [Summoning=4]Summon Lesser Golem (40-rank MP) - Creates a golem from the strongest, most abundant material available. If outdoors, this is likely to be clay or mud. Inside stone fortresses and the like, this is most likely to be stone, and in certain places, such as volcanoes or alternate planes, it is likely to be an elemental golem of the appropriate element. This summon, unlike others, does not have a fixed duration--it lasts until killed. If the creator of the golem is killed or disabled, then the golem goes berserk, attacking targets indiscriminately, or follows the last command given to it before going crazy. A golem can only follow simple commands, and is not intelligent enough to remember a sequence of them, only one at a time. Such commands might include "attack that creature," "defend this room," "protect me from harm," or "carry that over there." An average golem has 70 HP, an AC of 45, an initiative of 4+2d6, an AT/PA of 12, and deals 20+2d6 punching or 30+1d6 slamming at a -3 to hit penalty. A golem made from stone or iron will have higher damages and a higher AC. Elemental golems will deal appropriate damage bonuses.
- [Void Magic=2, WDM= 4]Kaiser Burst (24 MP) - A powerful attack caused by summoning a large amount of magical energy and KI from the depths of one's soul. The attack does 18+ranks*5+2d6 damage to a single target. This attack has been known to cause extra damage to demonic type enemies, and suffers a penalty if used against other dragons.
- [Twilight Magic= 2]Fatalis A (10 MP) - A basic Twilight Magic spell, the Fatalis A incantation summons a wave of energy from "Mu" to engulf one target. Damage is variable depending on the target's vulnerability to nether-energies. These energies cause 10+rank*3+1d6 shadow damage to a single opponent.
- [WDM= 1, Rune Magic= 1]Dragon Fire (10 MP) - Will uses the runes on his body to create a burst of fire erupt from the ground as if a dragon exhaled it. The fire is not as potent as pure dragon-fire, but it is useful when a fire is needed. The flames cause 10+ranks*3+1d6 damage to a single enemy, and obviously have other utilitarian uses.
- [Summoning Magic = 1] Summon Water (4 MP) - creates 2 gallons of water per rank of Summoning. For 6 MP, he can choose the temperature.
- [WDM=6] Soul Healing (24 MP) - Will heals a target for 20 + rank*4 + 2d6 damage. It can even be used to heal undead, if desired.
- [WDM=10, Summoning=7] Spirit Blade (20 MP) - Using a self-created technique, Will summons a blade of soul energy into one of his hands. This sword is noncorporeal and inflicts purely magical damage. It counts as a 12/16/20 weapon with +1/+1 to his AT/PA and deals 2d4 bonus damage on all hits. Targets with magical resistance are affected accordingly, as are magic-weak targets. Each turn the sword is being used, a 4 MP cost is required to sustain it. Summoning and dispersing the sword each count as free actions.
