Wyndell Trust, an Alahi drow merchant, and Yira Ulu, a Peli tribe bastet, met in a bar on Beau. The strong silent Trust and quiet Ulu talked then spent the night together. A year after that marriage Mazu Ulu was born. Smart, adventurous, and fairly good spirited, Mazu enjoyed learning and mechanics.

At the age of 12, he met the captain of an airship. The marvelous ship changed Mazu's life forever and from that moment on he decided to aspire to become a captain and travel the world. Deeply religious from both his mother's perception of Gaera and his drow perception of Gaera, he immediately began creating ships designs and praying that one day he could aspire to great things and reach portuna.

At the age of 19, he began construction of the Alahana Dragon with the financial support of his elusive father and the physical help of his mother's tribe. The Alahana Dragon contains many elements of "clankies", or the sometimes magical relics that are washed ashore the Tristes Islands by the Peli Whirpool. Completed when he was 22, Mazu began adding the magic runes the made the ship run and also helped flight. It would another year before the Alahana Dragon would fly.

For four years, Mazu traveled around Argovia, acting as a trader, freighter, and passenger carrier. It paid him extremely well. So well, in fact, he decided to fly to Igala to expand his trade. He first flew to Marme where he met an inujin pirate named Fifi Martinez. Having known enough Common to get him by in trading, he had a little trouble understanding the gruff pirate woman. In the end, Fifi started calling him Blue, because of his runes, Skydiver, because of a daredevil show he pulled for her. For a year he traveled the seas with Fifi as one of her mates. In the numerous battles they fought, the spear-wielding half-drow earned the nickname "Target", because of his deadly accuracy. After parting with Fifi, Mazu kept his pirate name and began his trading endeavors on Igala. Occasionally, and for the right price, heading back to Argovia for business.
