Lupus

In modern Gaeran society, the lupus is the head of the Inustani state. The first lupus of Inustan was Rastafa, an inujin who by 609 EP had expanded his mark to include much of current-day Inustan. Declaring himself High Lupus, Rastafa named the new land Fidelupa, combining terms for Fideleo and High Lupus.

The term lupus has ancient roots. In the beginnings of pre-Inustani civilization, inujin formed tightly-knit hunting packs called acuerdos. The leader of the acuerdo was known as the lupus. Unlike pre-Nekonia, whose prides were headed by kings, the elected lupus of an acuerdo was as frequently female as male. Though expected to keep up with the pack, females were given a reprieve in times of pregnancy, called 'the birth period,' or 'hora de nacimiento.' In these cases, the pregnant female was allowed to simply partake of the bounty of hunts, though especially early in the pregnancy she would still contribute.

Later, as small, seven-to-ten-member acuerdos banded together to form clans, the lupi of these acuerdos would choose a single lupus to represent the clan itself.
