OPT-LBX9/A "Shadowstorm"

Background

Created as a high-Assault A2, this Armor was first designed by the now-struggling corporation known as D-1. Originally, this A2's design was meant to be able to put out an awe-inspiring offense the likes others have not seen in as compact of a package. Though it was difficult and expensive assembling the rig, it had paid off--initially, anyway. The model had appealed to many of the groups within MAC, and demand was high. It was assumed that, if D-1 could manage to make assembly of these units faster and cheaper, it would have a major seller, and possibly something for it to rake in the money for a long time afterwards.

Alas, such a thing was not to be. While the Shadowstorm was a success--and hailed as a high-performance unit even by today's standards, it never really became cheaper to produce, and cost rendered mass-production prohibitive. With projected costs that would ultimately bankrupt the corporation otherwise, D-1 had to permanently halt production of the units. As such, there are a limited of OPT-LBX9/A models in service, and have been no plans to restart production. This A2 has ultimately been known as D-1's last major breakthrough, and the corporation has remained relatively unpopular since.

While the number of Shadowstorms in existence is not that high, the A2 tends to be treated with an extremely healthy sense of respect. The exact number of functional units is unknown, but most have been floating about Igala.

Sentancorp helped quell the demand ever-so-slightly with the vastly inferior, but much more economically sane and productive OPT-LBX9/M "Shadowstorm MP" model in the future.
