The Five Major Dragoon Factions (of Riva)

The True Lance

The True Lance was, at the peak of the dragoon's power in Riva, the most powerful and influential faction. Led by Wren Drasil, this follows the original Istarian fanatics interpretation of the scriptures to the letter, much in the fasion of their former fanatical leader, Tress Drasil. At some point, The True Lance's stronghold was situated in what is today Rivaran.

The Bloodied Blade

The Bloodied Blade is a smaller, rebellious faction which acts independantly from the other four. This faction is remarkably violent and prone to anarchy, and would very much like to see Wren Drasil dead. These fanatics are based nowhere in particular.

The Fist of the Storm

This dragoon faction, which is mostly centered around Narshe, is an ally of The True Lance, making them a mortal threat to The Bloodied Blade. These dragoons support a slow and eventual yet dramatic second takeover of the Rivan government, but instead of throwing the country into anarchy, seizing actual politcal control, an attitude which has earned this faction the nickname "The Ambassadors." The primary candidate for control of the government as a dictator, should the faction ever achieve their goals, is their current leader--the charismatic and persuasive Xerxes Pirota.

The Sable Rose

The Sable Rose is an interesting faction, one that has been known to make extremely temporary alliances with The Bloodied Blade (immediately before one faction backstabs the other). This faction is obsessed with death and necromancy, and is a bastion of safety from persecution by the legendary "dark dragoons." While human dark dragoons are rare, they do exist, and are mostly members of this Rivan group. At one point, there were rumors that The Sable Rose was being controlled through a puppet leader, whereas the actual leader was an illithid by the name of Xzar'il--but these rumors have neither been confirmed nor denied.

The Flying Fish

A seabound faction of the dragoons, the majority of this group consists of either a) pirates or b) ex-pirates, but still able seamen. This nautical group plunders and pillages without care, taking what they see fit and discarding the rest. The current leader of these dragoons is unknown, and they are largely based in the Val'ri sea.

The Order

This faction is all that remains of an utterly ancient group of dragoon warriors. The modern version believes they are still following the traditions of a rather old (perhaps mythological) Baronian dragoon by the name of Kain Highwind. These dragoons are based on the southwestern portion of Riva, and their current leader is Kain Highwind XVI (yet another tradition).

The Four Winds

Of all the dragoon factions, The Four Winds is the least predictable. They are situated in the north, and not necessarily violent, but more often greedy, The Four Winds is typically the most xenophobic faction, and particularly so against dragons and dragonkind. While the actions of The Four Winds are as often random as the winds themselves, their united hatred for the draconic race sometimes unites them into a more singleminded purpose.
