Modica was a major villain/antagonistic character who appeared on Gaera for the Chat RP campaign, the "Infinity Saga".
Life Story
Long ago, within a reality alternate to this one, there was a being by the name of Modica who was brought up as an Infinity employee from an early age. He was used as a test subject for countless experiments. He became so physically strung out that his body soon could not stand the strain of all that had been placed on him. This was further worsened when his body and mind were forced to join with a rogue gathering of dark energy that refused to dissipate, termed “the Heart of Evil”. His mind finally snapped, and he hungered for revenge against Infinity for what it had done to him. To that end, he completely destroyed the Infinity Corporation in that version of reality.
However, as a side effect to the combination, Modica effectively became nearly immortal, almost impossible to put down, due to the immense amount of power that had come about in his form. To this end, with each defeat or major injury he suffered, his body generated a greater amount of energy to cover up for the wound. In effect, he became stronger with each ‘defeat’. He also gained quite a few skills that had been out of his reach, among them the ability to tamper with the minds of others and to spatially travel.
His next step was to procure a fresh body, as his current form had been stressed out by the experiments of Infinity, so he put the entire time-space continuum at risk by forcing his way into the past of an alternate reality (said reality being 'this' one) and taking over the body of a younger version of himself, before Infinity ever picked up said younger version. This new Modica retained the mind of the younger Modica for some time as the older Modica used the years to adapt to the newer, fresher body. When the time had finally come, the new Modica took over the mind of the body and allowed himself to be taken by Infinity once more, secretly plotting the destruction of the Corporation in this newer reality all the while.
Not long after he 'joined' with Infinity again, he was sent with the various strike forces of Infinity, with the ultimate target for attack being The Tower on Knossos. He fought many battles with the earthen heroes over the fate of The Tower. Although he was defeated time and time again, due to the Heart of Evil joining with him, he was never really killed. Instead, he reformed elsewhere, and, using the power he gained with each defeat, to further his eventual goal of the destruction of Infinity. When the group of earthen heroes was betrayed by Alex and fed to the Heart of Infinity, he simply bided his time until a new group of heroes, this time on the 'Other' World, emerged, and continued in much the same manner by battling them as well.
It was during this time that his parts of his power became radically unstable due to their forced containment, and he expulsed much of it. This excess energy turned into the Dark Avatar, a somewhat weaker version of the Heart of Evil. Modica ignored this eventuality, forcing himself into hibernation to help focus his energy and prevent another such occurrence from taking place. This process of hibernation involved his sinking into the surface of the world and lingering there. During this time, the Dark Avatar, as well as a rogue Infinity employee who had taken it upon himself to worship the dark being, were both killed by a group of the 'Other' World heroes.
A number of months later, the Heart of Evil, presumably tired of the time Modica was taking to focus, took control of Modica’s body and released itself onto the planet surface in the form of a gigantic spider. Infinity did not even lift a finger against it, instead allowing it to attack as it pleased. In a flash, it almost effortlessly killed the 'Other' World heroes that rose up to attack it. It also reduced much of the planet to rubble. The Heart of Evil fell into an exhaustive state of rest after this slaughter. Modica still remained in a dormant state, still set on the same goal of focusing his power. Infinity took this time to study and experiment on the resting Heart of Evil. Time passed. Modica finally awakened and had focused his powers to a satisfying extent. He hungered, still, for revenge against Infinity, and found there to be a myriad of Infinity employees still on this world, including the primary target of Monotar, one of the heads of the 1st Branch of Infinity. He decided to finally begin his plan to slaughter the Corporation in this newer reality and formed himself a separate body away from the Corporation, a shadowy figure in a suit of armor.
Using the knowledge that the Heart of Evil had given him over time, he spatially traveled to the various shadow realms and negotiated deals with many of the unholy beings. The shadows were set to attack various 1st Branch establishments, including the base on 'Other' World, and made quick work of many of the employees. Modica himself appeared to Monotar and almost effortlessly killed him. It was around this time that the group of heroes from the world of Gaera arrived and began to explore. Modica allowed them to see the Heart of Evil body in a pod, as well as the corpse of Monotar, before setting the Shadows after them, pondering whether to attack them, kill them, or simply let them be. Upon watching their escape, he became delighted and decided to use them, if possible, against the rest of the 1st Branch.
Over time, Modica gradually became aware that one of the ‘heroes’ he had once battled on Earth, Alex, had actually been an Infinity spy sent to infiltrate and destroy the group of Earthen heroes. Since then, Alex had allowed the Heart of Evil to destroy much of 'Other' World. Apparently, he had been the 'shadow' behind Monotar. Having already killed Monotar, Modica decided to then kill Alex and traced his location to the 1st Branch’s home world. However, Alex apparently held quite a bit of psionic power in check as a shield against encroaching enemies. This shield appeared to be strong enough to hold Modica back… so he would have to use the group of Gaerans to distract Alex long enough for him to make a decisive blow.
With this in mind, he left numerous hints and riddles for the group to follow, and assisted them subtly in their eventual trip through Knossos and to the Infinity home world. It was during this time that the younger part of Modica, forced deep within by the older Modica, opened a window into the past, so that Enlil could understand the facts of the situation and would understand how this had all come to be. The older Modica, being well aware of the fact that Alex had set up a psionic barrier against any enemies who would approach him, used the heroes to distract him. During this time, Modica also invaded the core of the world and released the power of the Heart of Evil within him. This set off a chain reaction, signaling the impending destruction of the 1st Branch home world. When Alex finally let his guard down due to the arrival of the group in his personal office, Modica made his attack and very nearly killed Alex. However, his aim was a bit off and his objective was interrupted by the intervention of Enlil, thusly failing to decisively kill the man. Modica frustratedly released shadows upon the angel and escaped.
The group escaped, with Alex in tow, as the 1st Branch home world exploded, taking numerous Infinity employees with it. And though Modica was glad for this, Alex still remained… an objective he simply could not forget. Since the group of Gaeran heroes took Alex with them, he decided that they would have to be destroyed as well, and attacked their ship on its way home. An unknown force prevented the group from being torn to pieces, and the group of Gaeran heroes were eventually forced to make their way through a mosaic landscape, formed from both Modica’s memories and their own. At the very end, Modica awaited, readied to kill Alex and the rest of the group. Dementia, who was revealed to be sister to the younger Modica trapped within the older one, attempted to talk to the younger version. Her purity of word and kind tone bit through the Older Modica’s malice, stemming straight to the younger Modica deep within. This may have succeeded in finally setting the Older, more hateful Modica to rest if Alex, still with the group and with revenge on his mind, hadn’t foolishly opened fire on the villain. This set off a spark of rage within the Older Modica, who immediately took control back and let his hatred for Alex and all of Infinity burst outward… literally. Modica’s mind, unstable as it was, completely fell apart, being replaced by an immense amount of hateful energy.
The Heart of Evil took full form as a spider once more, and battled the group. Although it was defeated through a team effort, it soon arose once more as a pure wall of darkness and hatred, intent on nothing more than the destruction of the entire group. Normal battle against the creature of pure hatred was quickly revealed to be futile, as the group was blasted back following failed attack after failed attack. It was End Reshiki’s lance, with the hopes and prayers of the group’s friends and loved ones behind it that ultimately blew a hole through the pure, concentrated hate of the Heart of Evil.
At the last minute, the younger Modica is expelled from the form, leaving the Older Modica to die, once and for all, with the Heart of Evil. The being blew into pieces that scattered across the galaxy. Within the form, some flicker of mental thought realized the fact that the attempt to kill Alex had failed. It is perhaps with this recognition that the attempt to completely destroy the 1st Branch failed, that each of the shards lingered on with the desire for revenge in its ‘heart’, against the group that prevented it from achieving its goal. Various shards of the Heart of Evil attempted an attack on Gaera twice, each time embodying the body of a fallen villain, and each time failing. The Heart of Evil, and, for that matter, the older Modica, have apparently completely ceased to be.
Other
Modica only appeared in the Chat RP campaign concerning the Infinity Corporation. As his role is as a villain alone, you don't really think he'd be suited for CIs or as a board RP character, do ya?
