There are many NPCs in the early Final Fantasy games which annnounce: "I am a farmer." It would seem that many outside of Zany Video Game Quotes have found this amusing, leading to it becoming a small time catchphrase. Farmers themselves have also found themselves in a small spotlight of fame, including ranchers, also known as meat farmers.
I suppose on the bright side I can smack monsters down while shouting "I AM A FARMER." -- Archmage
