==Background==

Designed by [[Makura Kuragari]] and built by [[SentanCorp]], the HGAS07/J-CX "Mephisto" follows the typical naming designation for SentanCorp armors--its base model is the seventh in a series of heavy ground assault (HGAS) mecha designed for skirmishing with other light to medium armors. The /J-CX switch indicates that it is jump-capable (a non-standard option) and otherwise a greatly customized version of the base package. Even its exterior details are non-standard or modified from the stock components to meet Makura's exacting specifications.

==Description==

The Mephisto is a very large mecha, standing at nearly 40 feet tall. It has a humanoid shape, resembling the armor of a classical dragoon, is painted a dark crimson. Attached to its back via magnetic connector is a very large metal pole, sized to suit the enormous armor, that can be activated to produce a plasma-based halberd "blade." This energy poleaxe is the Mephisto's primary close-combat weapon.

Aside from the halberd, the Mephisto is armed with three primary means of defense. Mounted along the top and bottom of the left arm is a double heavy particle cannon, primarily intended for rapidly disabling lightly-armored targets. The right shoulder serves as the mounting hardpoint for a rocket launcher in the event of a target being heavily shielded against energy weapons. The Mephisto's most unusual weapon is a chest-mounted gravity-well generator that crushes targets within a narrow angle of fire, ruining the structural integrity of armor to soften up the enemy for further assault. While the Mephisto is not terribly speedy, Makura enjoys engaging targets by leaping onto their position either from behind cover or from higher ground. If faced with a foe armed with heavy energy-based attacks, the Mephisto will often deploy a prism cloud to cover its position and counter-attack either with its rocket launcher at range or by closing to melee distance.

The astral symbiote inhabiting the Mephisto refers to itself as "Amon." It is a taciturn, duty-minded entity, perhaps more dedicated to efficiency than even Makura. Completely without empathy or a sense of humor, the symbiote's primary character flaw is its intense jealousy; Makura, as strong-willed as he is, occasionally has slight difficulty controlling the symbiote when a comrade outperforms the Mephisto on the battlefield. Because of the symbiote's very strong ego, Makura has had to train diligently to synchronize with and command the Mephisto.
