- Metallic element (Reference: DS9 Technical Manual)
- Rare ore found in planetary bodies
- Especially dense and sturdy, often used in starship or station hulls, or any situations where a common but high-strength metal would be needed (Various)
- Known by Earth as early as 2140s
- Used in construction of NX-class starships (ENT: "The Xindi")
- Often alloyed into "duranium composites" to increase strength (DS9: "Captive Pursuit", "The Siege", "Q-Less")
- Such alloys in sufficient thickness often too dense for scanners to function through (DS9: "Captive Pursuit")
