Jak Snide (7:49:22 PM): Evening, chief
Idran1701 (7:49:27 PM): Hey, Jak. What's up?
Jak Snide (7:49:48 PM): Just got out of playing co-op Borderlands. My evening, as expected, was utterly consumed by it.
Jak Snide (7:50:13 PM): That said, Saturday tomorrow so if you want to take care of Zant's stuff now then I'm good for it
Idran1701 (7:51:15 PM): I don't entirely understand that sentence, but I'm good for Zant stuff too. :O
Idran1701 (7:51:27 PM): 30 minutes?
Jak Snide (7:51:32 PM): I may be speaking gibberish, and sure
Jak Snide (7:51:40 PM): Saturday tomorrow = no need for bed time = can stay up late
Idran1701 (7:52:32 PM): Aha.
Jak Snide (7:53:42 PM): Anyway, how're you doing today?
Idran1701 (7:56:09 PM): Not bad. You?
Jak Snide (7:57:42 PM): Good as well. Co-Op gaming is rarely anything but a delight. Except for the bit where everyone gets their first vehicle and spends 5 mintues running each other over.
Idran1701 (7:58:25 PM): What's not delightful about that?
Jak Snide (7:58:50 PM): 5 minutes can seem like an awfully long time :[
Idran1701 (7:59:03 PM): An awfully long time to ram into your friends with a car. :D
Jak Snide (7:59:43 PM): You're a bad man :[
Idran1701 (8:00:00 PM): Like you don't enjoy it a little too. :P
Jak Snide (8:01:27 PM): Only slightly
Jak Snide (8:01:38 PM): It's like being teased by the older sibling I never had
Idran1701 (8:01:52 PM): Heh.
Jak Snide is idle at 8:11:39 PM.
Jak Snide is no longer idle at 8:51:33 PM.
Idran1701 (8:54:47 PM): Hey. Something come up? Saw you were gone for a while. :O
Jak Snide (8:55:00 PM): I was/
Jak Snide (8:55:02 PM): *?
Jak Snide (8:55:07 PM): Oh, right, idle on AIM
Jak Snide (8:55:13 PM): No no, I'm here
Idran1701 (8:55:22 PM): Ah, okay.
Jak Snide (8:55:54 PM): There any way to disable the auto-idle deal? I remember being able to adjust the timer. And I'm ready if you are, chief.
Idran1701 (8:56:19 PM): Dunno. Can't think of one offhand.
Idran1701 (8:56:37 PM): Anyway, <Start!>
Idran1701 (8:57:30 PM): *hurrying across town, Zant makes his way to Automata's center of government. It takes a bit of talk, but eventually he's let through to the local holding cells, where people are kept before their legally-mandated
trials*
Idran1701 (8:59:10 PM): *it doesn't take long for him to spot Hoshi, scowling in a corner as she twitches her hands, not pleased at all with being locked away like this*
Idran1701 (8:59:42 PM): *the room's utterly silent, some enchantment masking noise of any sort within*
Jak Snide (9:00:01 PM): *moves towards her, keeping his expression calm with practiced ease*
Idran1701 (9:00:58 PM): *As he's escorted over by a guard, he's pointed towards a slim bronze circlet hanging from a hook on the wall; similar ones look to be worn by the other people held within.*
Jak Snide (9:01:40 PM): "What is this?" he asks curiously.
Idran1701 (9:02:14 PM): *the enchantment within the room seems to mask his own voice as much as that of the prisoners*
Jak Snide (9:03:02 PM): *raises an eyebrow then, with a slight shrug, picks up the circlet*
Idran1701 (9:04:21 PM): *Hoshi glances up as Zant puts the circlet on, her voice soon echoing in his head without any movement of lips*
Idran1701 (9:05:19 PM): T: I hoped you'd get here fast. I don't know what happened, but someone set me up to the guards here.
Jak Snide (9:07:01 PM): T: What exactly happened?
Idran1701 (9:07:35 PM): T: I don't know. They grabbed me almost as soon as I left the vault, when that elf showed up.
Idran1701 (9:08:09 PM): T: They said I was...trafficking in illegal and dangerous substances.
Jak Snide (9:08:37 PM): T: I assume you are not, and that said substances were found upon your person?
Idran1701 (9:09:20 PM): T: ...Not...exactly. *she looks to be sighing* I had them, but I wasn't trafficking in them. They found two crates of alchemical silver in back of my workshop.
Idran1701 (9:09:37 PM): T: But there is no way they could have known it was there.
Jak Snide (9:09:39 PM): T: It's illegal?
Idran1701 (9:10:02 PM): ...T: *chuckles* What's alchemical silver good for, Zant? For most sorts, at least.
Jak Snide (9:11:08 PM): (What is it good for?)
Jak Snide (9:11:32 PM): (Anti-planer being weaponry?)
Idran1701 (9:11:46 PM): (Bypassing DR mostly. It bypasses the DR of most lawful outsiders and lycanthropes.)
Idran1701 (9:11:54 PM): (In mechanical terms, that is.)
Idran1701 (9:12:45 PM): T: It's dangerous to baatezu and archons, yes. But I wasn't using it for that! It's just...easier to make large sculptures in steel or bronze, and coat them in alchemical silver. It's cheaper, and the end results aren't as
soft.
Jak Snide (9:14:30 PM): *inclines his head downwards in his usual manner of acknowledgement* T: It is, however, illegal, and the nature of this place is such that circumstances will mean little. Is there a difference between possession and intent to
sell?
Idran1701 (9:16:10 PM): T: ...Usually. But...*silently sighs again*...two crates worth, they assume I have to be arms dealing to have that much. If I was going to use it to attack someone, that'd be enough for two or three platoons of soldiers.
Jak Snide (9:18:08 PM): *The mental equivalent of a nod* T: Were you aware of the laws here with regards to the substance when you transported it into the city?
Idran1701 (9:18:39 PM): T: Of course I was. I'm a silversmith, I know what it can do.
Idran1701 (9:19:39 PM): T: But I knew I wasn't going to attack anyone with it, and no one would have found it, except someone tipped the guards off to search my workshop. *shakes her head* I shouldn't have kept it somewhere public like
that, I was an idiot.
Jak Snide (9:21:18 PM): T: I must regretfully agree. There are others charged with the same task that I have been, ones with less concern for the natuee of individual cases.
Idran1701 (9:22:30 PM): *soundlessly laughs, shaking her head* T: No, if it was some random smith pawing through my things, at least I could understand that. But I know exactly who it was, even if the guards refuse to confirm it.
Jak Snide (9:22:32 PM): (*nature, damnit)
Idran1701 (9:22:46 PM): T: The sentence is a fine equal to twice the value of the confiscated goods, and immediate deportation.
Jak Snide (9:22:54 PM): *A single raised eyebrow*
Idran1701 (9:23:38 PM): T: It was that...friend of yours and his allies. Your competition.
Jak Snide (9:24:32 PM): T: As I thought. I must admit that I am somewhat relieved. I feared that he and his fellows would resort to violence.
Idran1701 (9:24:59 PM): T: Even that would be better than this.
Idran1701 (9:25:26 PM): *scowls* T: They're legislating me out of town. And for something I didn't even do!
Jak Snide (9:27:48 PM): T: What would the penalty be for mere possession?
Idran1701 (9:28:24 PM): T: ...I don't know. I didn't ask.
Jak Snide (9:30:01 PM): T: Then I shall ask for you. I presume that it will be a lesser penalty. This will be useless, of course, if you cannot prove your intended use of the substance.
Idran1701 (9:31:33 PM): T: Which I have no clue how to do. Nor am I especially eager to do so. I don't think I should have to prove myself to these...thugs in matching outerwear.
Jak Snide (9:35:43 PM): T: You may refrain from doing so, in which case they will fine and attempt to deport you. I do not believe that one woman could stand against the entire guard and prevail, however, so physical resistance is inadvisable. If you
wish to resist then you must do so with the tools you possess.
Idran1701 (9:36:11 PM): T: And that's why I called you in here and not Asperel.
Jak Snide (9:37:11 PM): *Allows an expression of curiosity to slip onto his face*
Idran1701 (9:38:29 PM): T: You've got more patience for dealing with these sorts than me. I want your help. Call your friends in too if you think it'll make things better, but I know if I asked Asperel to come down, he'd just as likely make
things worse. No word against him, I know I'm likely to do the same if I tell them what's really on my mind right now.
Jak Snide (9:41:06 PM): *inclines his head once more* T: I can help you and am willing, but currently I believe that you will be required to prove your intent to the guard. Documentation stating your trade would be ideal, but failing that a demonstration
of your skill and the testimonies of any you provided services for should suffice.
Idran1701 (9:42:57 PM): *waves him off* T: You figure out what I need, and I'll help you. But I know things will go better if I've got you as a...a buffer between us. Even just after this last week, I still trust you better than whatever solicitor
they'd like to stick me with anyway.
Idran1701 (9:44:20 PM): T: Now, if you don't want to, that's perfectly fine. But I'd rather work with someone I know either way. Even someone I just barely know.
Jak Snide (9:48:06 PM): *smiles slightly* T: I have already offered my aid. Who should I speak to about this?
Idran1701 (9:49:15 PM): T: The guards? I'm not sure. I've been staying out of it, waiting for you to show up.
Jak Snide (9:49:49 PM): *nods once more* T: I shall go converse with them now. How much time is there before your trial?
Idran1701 (9:50:15 PM): T: Oh, plenty. You're in no rush.
Jak Snide (9:52:11 PM): T: All the same, no cause for delay. I shall make my inquiries now.
Jak Snide (9:54:50 PM): *he looks to the guard expectantly*
Idran1701 (9:56:38 PM): *the guard looks back!*
Jak Snide (9:57:05 PM): *takes the circlet off and returns it to where it was before*
Jak Snide (9:57:28 PM): (Unless the guard is wearing one as well, and that's how he'd communicate with him)
Idran1701 (9:57:49 PM): (Nope; privacy and all)
Idran1701 (9:58:03 PM): (Private conversation and no magic usage, all in one convenient package :D)
Idran1701 (9:58:18 PM): *the guard nods, and steps forward to escort Zant out*
Jak Snide (9:59:46 PM): *once they're out of the zone of silence Zant turns to the man* "I request to speak with the officer in charge of Miss Hoshi."
Idran1701 (10:01:02 PM): *he nods* This way, sir.
Jak Snide (10:01:10 PM): *follows*
Idran1701 (10:01:53 PM): *the guard leads Zant through the militia station, to a desk in back where an armored officer works at parchment*
Idran1701 (10:02:08 PM): *at their arrival, he glances up, nodding to the officer before turning to Zant* Can I help you?
Jak Snide (10:03:19 PM): "Indeed. I wish to speak with you regarding the charges placed against Miss Hoshi and the exact nature of the law regarding her case."
Idran1701 (10:04:58 PM): I'm afraid we aren't in the business of teaching civilians the law. All guests are required by law to familiarize themselves with the law, to prevent incidents.
Idran1701 (10:05:12 PM): But as for her case...the priestess?
Jak Snide (10:06:10 PM): "Yes, and I ask because I believe that she has been falsely charged. She was found to be in possession of alchemical silver, I believe?"
Idran1701 (10:08:31 PM): She was. Two crates worth.
Jak Snide (10:10:13 PM): "And you have charged her with intent to supply, is that also correct?"
Idran1701 (10:11:08 PM): We have.
Jak Snide (10:12:28 PM): *nods politely* "Did you place a charge of this severity based soley on her possession of the proscribed items?"
Idran1701 (10:13:13 PM): That was one aspect, yes.
Jak Snide (10:15:24 PM): "What were the other aspects? I assume you took into account the nature of the accused?"
Idran1701 (10:16:39 PM): *sighs, sounding vaguely irritated* While I am sure you are concerned on behalf of your friend, I'm afraid we cannot discuss the particulars of an ongoing case with a civilian, sir. Should I assume by your questioning
that you are applying to serve as her barrister?
Jak Snide (10:17:48 PM): "Indeed. My apologies for not stating so immediately."
Idran1701 (10:20:46 PM): *looks back to his parchment* Tell the clerk. After your application is stamped, you'll recieve all records relating to this case, including my report on her arrest.
Jak Snide (10:22:38 PM): *smiles ever so slightly, suspecting that this is the beginning of a long trail of paperwork*
Jak Snide (10:22:50 PM): "I shall do so immediately. My thanks for your time, officer."
Idran1701 (10:22:56 PM): *he nods* Of course.
Idran1701 (10:24:34 PM): *And assumedly Zant heads to the clerk?*
Jak Snide (10:25:12 PM): (Indeeeeed)
Idran1701 (10:25:20 PM): *He goes to there!*
Jak Snide (10:25:26 PM): (No plans for sneakiness as of yet)
Idran1701 (10:26:13 PM): *Surprisingly, it's almost painless. His name, Hoshi's name, any past experience, and he's done. Seems when it comes to the legal process itself, they've quite streamlined things.*
Idran1701 (10:26:37 PM): *It helps that Hoshi already had him listed as one under her approval, of course.
Jak Snide (10:28:42 PM): *Well, with that settled, Zant will inquire after the details the case against Hoshi.*
Idran1701 (10:30:16 PM): (Pretty much what she said. They recieved an anonymous tip about arms trafficking out of the smith workshop, and found the crates. When they went to take her in, she was extremely uncooperative, spat at one of
the guards, and they ended up having to haul her away in manacles.)
Jak Snide (10:30:53 PM): (Oh dear)
Idran1701 (10:32:30 PM): (There's not much else of note there.)
Jak Snide (10:34:31 PM): (Next up: check what being her barrister entails exactly.)
Idran1701 (10:35:08 PM): (He'll have to check the law books for that, which seems like the perfect segue back into the thread. :O)
Jak Snide (10:35:28 PM): (:o!)
Idran1701 (10:35:32 PM): (Almost as if I'd planned it that way!)
Jak Snide (10:35:59 PM): (The art of GMing: getting players to follow your pre-ordained plan while thinking it's their own)
Idran1701 (10:36:05 PM): (:D)
Jak Snide (10:39:55 PM): Shade is turning out alot nicer than I expected.
Idran1701 (10:40:22 PM): Haha.
Jak Snide (10:40:44 PM): I saw cheers and smiles and expected a ruthless streak underneath.
Idran1701 (10:40:58 PM): You must have an interesting time meeting new people.
Jak Snide (10:41:32 PM): Well, he is called Shade
Idran1701 (10:41:42 PM): He is!
Idran1701 (10:42:19 PM): Of course, you're called Alexander, yet I don't expect you to pop out of the ground and shoot giant holy lasers everywhere. :P
Jak Snide (10:43:09 PM): I wish I could do that
Idran1701 (10:43:21 PM): Haha.
Jak Snide is idle at 10:53:10 PM.
