Starmetal is a very potent, extremely rare metal. It was given its name because of where it comes from: Starmetal only can be found on some meteors that crash into Gaera. Given that this is not a regular occurence, starmetal is perhaps the rarest metal in existance. Bits and pieces of the metal have been found from time to time.
Comparisons of starmetal are often made with mithril. Starmetal is stronger than mithril, and yet much much lighter. If anyone could ever amass enough of the metal to make armor, it would be the lightest, and yet strongest armor ever made. However, making anything out of pure startmetal is out of the question. Since such small samples are found, they're made into an alloy, usually with mithril to preserve its properties. The result is a lighter-than-mithril weapon/armor that has a little bit more strength to it.
In addition, some believe that starmetal has anti-demonic and anti-undead properties, but whatever those are, they are lost in the alloy creation process.
