There are many definitions for "paladin."

Holy Warrior

The most "traditional" definition for a Paladin is a warrior that uses holy magics. They are defenders of the law, pure good beings that smite evil and rescue maidens from demonic beings.

This, of course, is a fairy tale. Most paladins these days only keep a few things in common with paladins of legend: They smite evil, and they use holy magic. In fact, most people that know how to cast a holy elemental spell can call him or herself a paladin. To many, the word has lost its meaning. The paladin is no longer the Holy Knight, but in most cases, someone with a sword and an ego.

This is not totally the case, however. There are still many paladins that uphold the ideal. These people, like Daniel Hyral do justice to this definition of the Paladin.

Servant of the Gods

Some Paladins are the favored servants of the gods and goddesses of Gaera. They are usually among the most trusted of their order (EXPAND LATER)

Animal

Believe it or not, there is an animal called the Paladin. It is much like an earth Armadillo. Named the Paladin because of its resemblance to the defensive "shield" of a paladin of yore, they can be found mostly in Doma.
