Briefly

"Economy: free market economy--all matters of trade and economy are not controlled by government

"Government: democratic anarchy--leaders are chosen for individual towns but law enforcement are generally hired mercenaries.

"History: Located at the heart of Argovia, Beau has always been the center of trade. It is a place where all the countries could meet and trade without regulation. Many times Beau had been captured but over time a mutal agreement of all the countries has been to leave Beau neutral."

Specifications: Beau does not have a central government, so there is no one who has the authority to set 'official' specifications for how the flag should look. Flags are often homemade and created with variations as a sign of pride and interest, or to just show off. There are, however, a few things that are almost always included on the Beau flag:

  1. A white field, taking up more than half of the flag's area and usually positioned on the flag's right side.
  2. Six swatches of very bright colors. These are, traditionally, the colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple (the commonly recognized colors of the rainbow), in that order, but it is not terribly uncommon to see the colors out of order, or for someone to pick several different shades of, say, their favorite color. It is not, however, considered to be a "proper" Beau flag if there are not 6 swatches in total.

The shape of the flag and proportions vary.

Symbolism: The white field is a reference to Beau's good faith "neutrality" status within Argovia. The six swatches represent the six major islands of Beau.

Evolution: Why does Beau, a country without a government, have a flag? A commonly used design has developed because [1] the people of Beau have a strong sense of national identity and [2] the tradition of the flag is an old one and good one. Flags are decoration, attention-grabbers, and tell others about yourself. while not everyone in Beau uses the same flag, this design has spread like a meme and is well-known.

As mentioned, Beau has a good faith "neutrality" status within Argovia. To signal that a ship was from Beau, its owners would fly white flags on their fishing and trading ships. From here, this was brought inland as the "flag of Beau."

In the markets, enterprising merchants added bright colors on one side of the flag to grab the attention of potential shoppers. Originally the color was on the outer side of the flag, but turning the flag around so that the colors were attached to the pole allowed for the white field to be cut in a variety of attractive and fancy designs, and then trimmed with colored thread.

Meanwhile, whether or not the symbolism of the number of color swatches developed before or after tourists asked what they symbolized is a subject of debate.

Some families have flags of older designs passed down through the families.
